National Voter’s Day Celebrated at GHSC-10 (25.01.23)

Electoral Literacy Club & NSS Wing of Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh celebrated National Voter’s Day on January 25, 2023. Host of activities like Poster Making, Slogan Writing & Essay Writing Competitions on the theme.‘Nothing like voting, I will vote for sure’ were organised. A Voter’s Pledge was also taken along with the song in the background ‘Mai Bharat hoon’ to mark the occasion.Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the College applauded the efforts of Electoral Literacy Club & NSS Wing and talked about the main objective behind the celebration of National Voter’s Day. She further emphasized that it is celebrated to encourage, facilitate and maximize enrolment, especially for new voters.

     

  

 

GHSC-10 Celebrates Parakram Diwas (23.01.23)

NSS Wing of Government Home Science College conducted Parakram Diwas to commemorate the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on January 23rd, 2023 . To mark the celebrations of Parakram  Diwas Essay Writing Competition was organised on the theme ‘Significance of Constitution of India’. Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the college,highlighted  that Bose's patriotism and iconic call for freedom made him a hero and earned him an indefatigable reputation since the Indian Independence movement. She further emphasised that Bose's selfless contribution to India's Independence Movement and organizing and leading the Indian National Army is indispensable.

      

GHSC-10 Celebrates National Girl Child Day (24.01.23)

 NSS Wing of Government Home Science College conducted a host of activities to celebrate National Girl Child Day on 24.01.2023. To mark the celebrations of National Girl Child Day, Poster Making Competition and Slogan Writing Competition on the theme ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ was conducted to celebrate the day with full vigour . Prof. Sudha Katyal, Principal of the college, emphasized that if we fail to address girls’ differentiated needs and aspirations, a generation will be lost and with it, our hope for sustainable development, prosperity, peace and security will also be lost.

      

 

 

Celebration of Constitution Day on November 26, 2022

Government Home Science College celebrated Constitution Day to mark the anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. Around 60 NSS Volunteers participated in Preamble Reading and were sensitised regarding the contribution of framers of the Indian Constitution with respect to prominent values and fundamental rights. Furthermore, NSS  volunteers also took pledge to constitute India into a Sovereign Democratic Republic. Principal of the college, Prof.Sudha Katyal gave concluding remarks and motivated the students to be Atma nirbhar and be brave enough to voice out ones opinion and stand for themselves thereby assuring the dignity of the individual and the unity of the Nation.

    

 

 

SAY NO TO DRUGS CAMPAIGN ORGANIZED AT GHSC-10 23.11.22

NSS Wing of the college organized ‘Say No to Drugs Campaign’ on the campus today. The initiative was organised in collaboration with Chandigarh Police. The police team comprised of  Sh. Sukhdeep Singh SHO, Shiv Kumar ASI,Jatinder Singh ASI,Amit Kumar Constable,L/c Rajmati & Jarnail Singh.It was an interactive session wherein the ill effects of drug consumption were highlighted. SHO Sukhdeep Singh also elaborated on the role played by Chandigarh Police in rendering the support to residents & students to curb this menace. More than 50 NSS Volunteers attended the session.Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal encouraged the importance of such campaigns and urged the students to be aware of such menaces engulfing the society.

   

 

Celebration of Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, 2022

Government Home Science College celebrated Birth Anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas on November 15, 2022. Programme Officers of NSS Unit addressed the audience on the importance of Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and the significant role of tribal leaders like Bhagwan Birsa Munda as well as other great personalities and unsung heroes of Janjati communities. On the occasion to commemorate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the debate competition was also organised on the theme, ‘Contribution of Janjati Heroes in Freedom Struggle’. Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal elaborated on the contribution of unsung heroes in India’s freedom struggle. She further emphasized on the lessons learnt from the past and appealed the volunteers to act with responsibility to keep the dignity of the independence which our country has achieved through immense hardships and sacrifices of our freedom fighters. Further, she also applauded the students for their overwhelming participation in the event.

   

   

 

Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week (October 31st  - November  06, 2022)

Various Activities were organized during the entire week from October 31st  - November  06, 2022. Integrity Pledge, Poster Making Competition & Essay Writing Competition were organized. The theme of the Poster making and essay writing competition was ‘Corruption Free India for a Developed Nation’.

NSS Volunteers of GHSC-10 Visited Census Museum Gallery

NSS Volunteers of the college visited Census Museum Gallery, Sector-19, Chandigarh on 21.10.2022. The visit was organised in collaboration with Directorate of Census Operations, Chandigarh Administration. Around 28 NSS Volunteers visited the museum.

   

  

   

   

 

NSS Volunteers of GHSC-10 participated in Plastic Collection Drive 19.10.22

A Plastic Collection Drive organised by NSS Wing of Government Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh in College Campus and Sector-15, Chandigarh. The collected plastic waste was handed over to the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh.

 

 

 

NSS Wing celebrated ‘World Earth Day’ on April 22, 2022

NSS Volunteers celebrated ‘World Earth Day’  on the theme “Invest in Our Planet”.  The event started with pledge taking ceremony. Volunteers were made aware regarding different types of e-waste and were also informed  about the facility of e-waste collection inside the college campus so that it can be recycled. Volunteers were further urged to protect our planet by using eco-friendly products and also inculcate the habit of reduce, reuse and recycle to keep the earth clean and green. NSS Volunteers also made beautiful posters on the given theme.Principal of the college, Prof. Sudha Katyal emphasised on the  importance of segregation of waste (dry waste and wet waste) in day to day life and how it helps to make our surroundings clean in professional as well as personal spaces.

 

 
  
 

 

 

NSS activities are compulsory for all the students and students & staff are involved in voluntary outreach activity participation in the adopted village 'Khuda Ali Sher' pertaining to 'Swachh Bharat' and skill development. Two seven day and night camps are compulsory for each student. Weightage of marks are given for the same as per the decision of the syndicate, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

  • Weightage for NSS
    As per decision of the Syndicate Para (13) meeting dated 22.11.2014 and Syndicate Para (36) dated 25.01.2015, Regarding accreditation 'A,B & C' certificate & weightage 1% ,2% & 3% for NSS volunteers.

    • a) 'A' Certificate         1% of obtained Marks
      Completed one year (120 hours) and participated in seven day and night camp (one camp).
    • b) 'B' Certificate         2% of obtained marks
      Completed two years (240 hours) and participated in seven day and night camp (two camps).
    • c) 'C' Certificate         3% of obtained marks
      Completed three years (360 hours) and participated in seven day and night camp (three camps).

These gradation certificates will be given on the basis of the voluntary services rendered by NSS Volunteers in the field of social service while studying in educational institutions.

Annual Activities of NSS (Session 2016-17)

The college runs two NSS units which has 200 volunteers on its rolls.NSS Programme Officers Dr. Ritu Pradhan and Mrs. Chhaya Verma organized a 7 day special residential camp at the Adopted Village-Khuda Ali Sher including demonstrations on health, hygiene and healthy recipes and awareness campaign against social evils like dowry, to name a few. Apart from this, Dengue awareness drive, Celebration of constitution day, World AIDS day and blood donation camp were some of the other activities conducted by this unit.

Rashtriya Ekta Saptah Unity Week Celebrations

October 31, 2016 – November 06, 2016

 

The NSS Volunteers of Govt. Home Science College, Sector-10, Chandigarh under the guidance and directions of Principal , Dr. Sudha Katyal  alongwith NSS Programme Officers, Dr. Ritu Pradhan and Mrs Chhaya Verma organized week long celebration from October 31, 2016 up to November 6, 2016 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,  the Unifier of India and to honour the memories of Sardar Patel.

The activities were conducted to foster and reinforce our dedication to preserve and strengthen Unity, Integrity and Security of our nation.

The events organized further emphasized and  reflected his decisive efforts in unifying a diverse country like India.

Nearly 100 NSS  volunteers participated with full enthusiasm and patriotic fervour for all the events.

The celebration for Unity week was  inaugurated by honourable Principal, Dr. Sudha Katyal.

The celebration began with undertaking of pledge along with the Principal, NSS volunteers and NSS programme officers.
